All students need support and guidance in college. Spark is designed to help improve college graduation rates of students who have experienced foster care and kinship care, including those that have been adopted. In Texas, only 1-2% of students who have been in foster care graduate with a bachelors from higher education. Spark determined to see more students graduate, and we are working hard to build bridges from high school to college to graduation and beyond!
College Transition Support
College transition can go more smoothly with a plan. We help youth navigate the application process, learn how to be successful in school, and ask the right questions, regardless of where you decide to attend college!  Spark can connect you with liaisons that can walk you through the process of receiving financial aid, answer questions about scholarships and grants, and help students learn about what is available at your school of choice. The program is open to all high school students and beyond – anyone interested in attending college – including 2-year or 4-year schools.
Support while at UT
At a campus with over 50,000 people it can be overwhelming being the new kid on the block. New students don’t know who they can reach out to for assistance. At UT, Spark works closely with Horns Helping Horns and Student Services to offer year round services for students. While you are in college, you will be studying hard. We want to help you live life to the fullest and stay on track to success.
Leadership & Connection
Spark has a new student organization aimed at developing leadership skills for UT students in our program. We offer Adulting 101 & leadership workshops, community building events, and connection. We are excited to offer new opportunities to develop new relationships and support systems this year!
Career Support
The Spark team wants to help you connect with the best career services, both during school and after graduation.  As a Spark student we will help you with find on campus jobs and assist with preparing you for employment, internships, job fairs, and more!
